On June 23 Putnam Pride Initiative held our second annual community picnic in the park. We invited everyone we could think of, hired a face painter, engaged our friends in ZooSoul (the drumming performers), asked representatives from the IN-ACLU and Conspire: Contemporary Crafts to table (among others). We asked for food donations. We did a lot of organizing. And then we crossed our fingers and hoped folks would show up!
And people did show up! We were thrilled that over 150 friends, allies, families and other guests came to share a meal, hit a piñata, blow some giant bubbles, and even dance a little. Friends joined from near and far-- even the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence came to play with the beanbags. It was a great event, even if it did rain a little.
We had PLENTY of food, and for that we especially want to thank our very generous sponsors for the wonderful donations of food from local eateries like Tap House 24, Charlie's Beefcake Burgers, DePauw Dining/ Bon Appétit, Jimmy Johns, and Greencastle McDonalds. Thanks to everyone else who brought a dish to share as well! It's one of our favorite things to be able to share meals with this Putnam County community.
